Mount Vernon Takes Aim At Zombies
A 'zombie house' on South 9th Avenue came down this week.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A "zombie" house has been torn down in Mount Vernon at 465 South 9th Ave. It's part of the city's fight against uninhabited, unmaintained properties that make neighborhoods more unsightly and less safe.
"This tear-down is the latest step in revitalizing the city’s neighborhoods. The city has been buoyed by the support of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office, who has delivered grant funding to address to zombie home situation," Mayor Richard Thomas said on Facebook.
The Mayor's Office is still collecting signatures on a petition asking other Mount Vernon elected leaders for stronger support of the program against zombie houses.
