The City of Mount Vernon is currently under a winter weather advisory.

From the City of Mount Vernon: The City of Mount Vernon is currently under a winter weather advisory. Mount Vernon, and the surrounding region, are currently experiencing strong winds with heavy gusts and significant downpours with rain and sleet mixing.
We are asking residents to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay indoors as potentially heavy rainfall and high winds will be affecting the region throughout. Flash floods warning are in effect.
Businesses and residents are asked:

- To secure garbage cans, outdoor furniture, potted plants and other outdoor objects that may become airborne should wind speeds increase.
- Charge cell phones and other necessary devices fully in case of a power outage.
- If you must drive, travel cautiously and at a lower speed.
- Keep their eyes open - call 911 or the Mount Vernon Police Department if you see shingles, debris, tree limbs, or any other projectile.
- Construction sites must be secured.
- Most importantly - check on your friends, neighborhoods, and the elderly. Make sure people close to you are ok.
Residents are asked to call the Mount Vernon Police Department at 914-665-2500 and Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED if they see a potentially hazardous condition. Hazardous conditions include downed power lines, fallen trees and branches, and building debris. Flash flood warnings are in effect.

The city urges residents to use precautions while traveling and avoid downed power lines and trees. Power outages are a possibility and should be reported to Con Edision at 1-800-75-CONED.
