MVPD Needs Your Help IDing Suspect Who Shot A Woman On The Street

Video obtained by Mount Vernon police showed the perpetrator was Black, with a lion's head backpack and a rust-colored, fedora-style hat.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — The Mount Vernon Police Department is asking the public for help identifying the man who shot a 45-year-old woman on the street.

Police say that on Friday, around 5:30 p.m., they were alerted to the shooting on West 3rd Street.

Officers found the victim, Christie Tovia, with a gunshot wound to her right hand.

Tovia was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment. She is expected to make a full recovery, according to officials.

Detectives recovered video of the shooting and are now seeking the public's help in identifying the gunman.

He is described by police as Black, wearing a distinctive backpack with a lion's head on it and a rust-colored, fedora-style hat.

Mount Vernon Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the MVPD "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and your tip to 847411. Information can also be sent anonymously using the "Mount Vernon PD" app in the Google Play and Apple Store.
