NYPD Arrests Off-Duty Mount Vernon Police Officer In Queens On DWI Charge: MVPD

The department said the officer has been suspended without pay. The Queens DA is prosecuting the case.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — The Mount Vernon Police Department has confirmed that an off-duty police officer has been arrested by the NYPD.

Officer Steven Moreano, 29, was arrested on July 26th on the charge of Driving While Intoxicated, according to the department.

"As a permanent civil service employee, any further disciplinary action will be handled in accordance with the procedures of the Mount Vernon Police Department and the City of Mount Vernon," the department said in a statement. "The Mount Vernon Police Department holds all officers and employees to high professional standards. The Department remains committed to serving the residents and visitors of the City of Mount Vernon with professionalism and integrity.

MVPD said that Moreano has been suspended without pay.

The Queens County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
