Patterson-Howard Holds Town Hall On Integrity In City Hall

She'll tackle the tough topic in her next Town Hall at Macedonia Community Center, 103 W 2nd St.

From Shawyn Patterson-Howard for Mayor: While political infighting and chaos plague Mount Vernon’s current administration, mayoral candidate Shawyn Patterson-Howard is ready to roll-up her sleeves and discuss real solutions for effective city governance. Shawyn, an award-winning public sector executive with more than three decades of experience will present her vision for Mount Vernon and plans to transform City Hall in her first 100 days.

Shawyn will make the case for her candidacy to the public on Wednesday, May, 15, 2019, at 7pm as part of her Town Hall series. The event will take place at Macedonia Community Center, 103 W 2nd Street, Mount Vernon, NY 10550

At the top of her agenda: restoring city’s credit rating, establishing an office of constituent services to address the immediate needs of community residents, and healing the rifts between the mayor’s office, city council and the comptroller, all of which must work together to Mount Vernon to run smoothly.

As a community builder and skilled administrator, Shawyn has a reputation for bridging gaps among diverse groups so they can effectively work together to address persistent challenges such as economic and workforce development, housing, public safety, public health, education, youth development, senior living and an array of other issues. At the Town Hall, she will leverage her considerable experience to explain how the lack of internal controls and patterns of retaliatory behavior have rendered effective governance of Mount Vernon nearly impossible.

The first woman and person of color appointed President and CEO of the YMCA of Yonkers, Shawyn built a coalition of 85 local partners that won a national competition conducted by the national YMCA of the USA in partnership with the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to test collaborative strategies to reduce health disparities. She currently oversees a multi-million dollar budget. If elected Mayor, Shawyn will focus on strengthening the local community and using her relationships on the city, county, state and federal levels to bolster Mount Vernon and restore trust in the city’s leadership. She would be the first woman elected in Mount Vernon’s history.

Shawyn will work tirelessly to make the city a place that honors the past while innovating for the future; a city that taps the public and private sectors to help foster growth and evolution that respects its vibrant and diverse population; and a city that benefits all the people of Mount Vernon, and not simply a privileged few.
