MOUNT VERNON, NY — A recent ribbon cutting marked the official opening of a new prekindergarten program based at the Mount Vernon Friendship for Tots on East Lincoln Avenue. Friendship for Tots and the Mount Vernon City School District have a long-standing partnership educating preschool-age students.
The district has supported the universal prekindergarten 4-year-old program at Friendship for Tots for more than seven years.

Mount Vernon school officials saw the need for increased support of 3- and 4-year-olds. So the PreK3 program began this past February.
There, 54 students receive a free full day education including, breakfast, lunch and snack. The PreK3 program is geared to engaging both parents and students in an enriching early childhood experience. Through structured curriculum from Benchmark Education, hands-on centers, music, and physical activities, students begin their educational journey with a solid foundation.

Presiding over the ribbon-cutting and official opening were Mount Vernon Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton and Bishop C. Nathan Edwers of the Friendship Worship Center.
