The feisty critters didn't make it easy on the rescuers, who had to remove a sewer grate to free them from their perilous predicament.

YONKERS, NY —Yonkers police are usually in the business of catching thieves in the night, but these adorable masked bandits were treated with kid gloves.

"Here is your feel-good video for the day: Last Spring, Police Officers Tommy Allison and Theron Park of the #YonkersPD Emergency Service Unit joined forces with a Good Samaritan to rescue two baby racoons from drowning in a storm drain on Spring Road," YPD wrote in a now viral social media post. "With some tools and elbow grease, the storm grate was moved and the animals rescued; they were moved to the side of the road with their mother watching from across the street. Off-camera, a third baby racoon was rescued, and all three were reunited with mom (to wreak havoc on someone’s garbage can, no doubt!)"

All's well that ends well and there were only tears of joy (and some joyful chittering) when the treacherous rescue operation was complete.
