Shot 7 Times on South Fulton Avenue

Surveillance video from a nearby business was part of the evidence in this case of attempted murder.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A 25-year-old Mount Vernon man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in a case from 2015. Marc Seward shot Markel Overton seven times on South Fulton Avenue in 2015.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced the plea of guilty of one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony

At about 2:50 a.m. Aug. 9, 2015, Overton was in the vicinity of 523 South Fulton Ave. in Mount Vernon when Seward shot him, prosecutors said.

City police officers who were on patrol at the time of the shooting heard multiple gunshots coming from the area. Police were then notified by Mount Vernon Hospital personnel that the victim was at the hospital. They learned that Overton had been shot seven times.

The defendant will be sentenced on August 17, 2017. He faces up to 25 years in state prison.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jean Prisco of the Superior Court Trial Division and Assistant District Attorney Stephen Ronco of the Investigations Division.
