Similac Alimentum Formula Back On The Shelves At Hudson Valley Store

YONKERS, NY — A long-awaited shipment of specialized baby formula to help Westchester County parents feed formula-fed infants with special dietary needs has arrived in Yonkers.

More than 11,000 units of hard-to-find, ready-to-feed Similac Alimentum formula are now available at Stew Leonard's.

"We did it! 11,000 units of Similac Alimentum infant formula now in Yonkers. Price will be $16.99/each and limit is 2 per customer," the Yonkers Stew Leonard's store posted on social media early Friday afternoon. "We are basically selling it at cost — Stew wanted to get the product as a service to our customers and thankfully, due to our long-standing relationships with our vendors, our buying team was able to get it done. Only in Yonkers. Still working with German company to get formula in other stores."

A slew of pandemic supply chain issues exacerbated by recent baby formula recalls have been sending moms and dads in New York and around the country on a high-stress scavenger hunt to feed their infants.

Most of the ingredients for baby formula are made from cow's milk and the Agriculture Department estimates milk production will decline by about 300 million pounds from 2021. Labor shortages and transportation problems are compounding the problem, along with the Abbott Nutrition recall of certain lots of Similac Alimentum and EleCare infant formulas produced at its Sturgis, Michigan, plant.

The shortage is particularly acute for families whose babies need specialized formula, such as the Similac Alimentum which has only now returned to the shelf at Stew Leonard's.
