Suspect Arrested In VA For Shooting Mount Vernon Man In Head: MVPD

The Virginia man has been charged with attempted murder in connection to the Monday afternoon shooting on a city street.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — The suspect had already fled to Virginia, but an arrest has been made in the Monday afternoon gun violence that left a Mount Vernon man shot in the head.

On Tuesday, the City of Richmond Police Department and the FBI Central Virginia Violent Crime Task Force arrested Delvauna "Randy" Brown for attempted murder in connection with the shooting that took place on Monday in Mount Vernon.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Mount Vernon police were called to the 2o0 block of South 9th Avenue on a report of a man shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a man, later identified as 48-year-old Garfield Morgan of Yonkers, on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of his head.

Mount Vernon police officers and firefighters immediately began giving medical aid to Morgan, who was then rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. Remarkably, he is expected to recover, according to officials.

Mount Vernon detectives and members of the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force were able to quickly identify Brown as the suspected shooter, but their investigation found that following the shooting, the 40-year-old had fled Mount Vernon and traveled to the Richmond, Virginia area. After determining the possible location of Brown, Mount Vernon detectives contacted the Richmond Police Department as well as the FBI Central Virginia Violent Crime Task Force for assistance.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, authorities in Richmond placed Brown under arrest on the Mount Vernon arrest warrant.
