MOUNT VERNON, NY — City officials are warning drivers that upcoming bridge work could make getting around the region a little more tricky for early holiday shoppers this month.

Work on the Lincoln Avenue Bridge over the Hutchinson River Parkway, connecting Mount Vernon and Pelham, will take place overnight Friday through Saturday mornings on two weekends this month. Traffic congestion is likely as one lane is expected to close northbound and southbound between Exit 4 (Boston Post Road/US Route 1) and Exit 7 (Pelhamdale Avenue) on the major Westchester County artery.

Construction is slated to take place Nov. 5, from 10 p.m. until noon on Nov. 6, and Nov. 12, beginning at 10 p.m. through November 13, at noon.

The project is part of the "Lower Westchester Bridges Bundle" work to replace four bridges, renovate another, and convert a large culvert into a small bridge. Transportation officials said the project, which includes drainage improvements and the reconstruction of roadways prone to flooding, will enhance safety and improve the region's resiliency during storm events.
