Unlicensed BMW Driver Had Crack And Illegal Gun On Board: NYSP

Troopers say after they pulled the New Rochelle man over in Mount Vernon, he tried, unsuccessfully, to make a run for it.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Troopers say a suspended license was the least of a Westchester man's infractions when he was pulled over this week.

The New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit in Troop K says that it arrested a New Rochelle man on Tuesday for felony drug and gun possession.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 BMW 328 Series on Union Ave. in Mount Vernon for vehicle and traffic violations.

Their investigation found that 44-year-old Desmond S. Carter was driving the vehicle with a suspended license. He tried to flee on foot while being interviewed but was taken into custody shortly after.

Troopers then found Carter was in illegal possession of around 60 grams of crack cocaine and a loaded Bryco Model 38 .380 handgun.

He was arrested for felony third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, felony second degree criminal possession of a weapon, misdemeanor second degree criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.

Carter was arraigned before the city of Mount Vernon Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail.
