YONKERS, NY — A Yonkers man was arrested and charged with threatening to kill a Westchester County police officer in an anonymous call that also mentioned his family.

Hector Gonzalez was charged on Thursday with aggravated harassment. The 20-year-old was arraigned today in Yonkers City Court and released on his own recognizance. An Order of Protection was issued barring him from any further contact with the officer he is accused of threatening.

Gonzalez is believed to have obtained the officer’s cell phone number and then made an anonymous call on Sunday to threaten the officer’s life (while also referencing his family).

Westchester County Police said they had no previous dealings with Gonzalez and believe he got the officer's phone number after the policeman gave it to another person during an investigation.

The threat was investigated by detectives from the General Investigations Unit, who unraveled the trail of red herrings the caller used to try to hide where the call originated and who was responsible.

Gonzalez surrendered yesterday afternoon at the Westchester County Police headquarters in Hawthorne.

"I commend our detectives for their thorough investigation that identified a suspect in this disturbing incident," Westchester County Police Commissioner Thomas Gleason said in a statement announcing the arrest. "We will not tolerate threats to the safety of our officers and will pursue these matters fully if they occur."

Gonzalez is due back in Yonkers City Court on Feb. 24.
