When Do Mount Vernon Schools Close, Reopen for Holidays 2016?

It's a short vacation this year in the city based on what day of the week Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year's Day fall.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — It's just the way the calendar falls in 2016. Christmas Eve is on a Saturday; Hanukkah is on a Sunday; New Year's Day is on a Sunday.

And that's why the Mount Vernon school district's holiday vacation is only six school days long. The last day of school is Dec. 23 (it's a half day). Then Jan. 2 is the national holiday, and there you are, the end! School resumes Jan. 3, 2017.

Then it's a cold six weeks till the next vacation: Mid-Winter Recess: Feb. 20 - 24.
