Yonkers Man Shot In The Head In Mount Vernon Early Monday Afternoon

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The FBI Safe Streets Task Force and MVPD are at the scene.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Yonkers man was shot in the head in Mount Vernon on Monday afternoon.

On Monday, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Mount Vernon police were called to the 200 block of South 9th Ave. after reports of a man shot.

Officers arriving on the scene found 48-year-old Garfield Morgan, of Yonkers, on the ground, with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head.

Officers and Mount Vernon firefighters immediately began rendering first aid to Morgan. He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he is expected to recover.

MVPD detectives and members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force are investigating the shooting.

Mount Vernon police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. Police said all calls will remain confidential. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via "Text-a-Tip," by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 847411.
