Yonkers Police Probe Fatal Fire

YONKERS, NY — An elderly woman died in a fire Tuesday morning in Yonkers. Police have identified her as Ida Martinez, 69, a resident of the one-story building.

The fire at 131 Park Ave. was reported at 8:51 a.m.

Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to assist the Yonkers Fire Department at the one-story building. The officers conducted traffic and crowd control during fire operations.

Detectives from the Yonkers Police Fire Investigation Unit, Major Case Unit, and Crime Scene Unit in collaboration with the Yonkers Fire Department Fire & Arson Investigation Unit are actively investigating the incident, interviewing witnesses, canvassing the scene, and processing forensic evidence.

No determination as to the cause of the fire has been established at this time and is currently under investigation.

The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department offers its sincere condolences to the family of the victim. No other injuries are being reported at this time.
