It was the biggest payout of 2022, but just the latest in a run of record-setting jackpots in recent years at the Hudson Valley casino.

YONKERS, NY —Empire City Casino announced its largest jackpot of 2022 was won by a lucky local.

The big winner identified only as "Walter," a Yonkers native, recently hit a $925,488 jackpot with a $20 bet on the IGT Wheel of Fortune Triple Stars slot machine.

"We are always excited to see one of our customers win a life-changing prize, but especially as we approach the holiday season," Empire City GM Ed Domingo said. "We congratulate Walter on joining our long history of guests hitting jackpots of almost $1 million, and we can’t wait to continue that tradition at Empire City with the next lucky winner."

The popularity of the Yonkers casino makes the slot-busting jackpots more common than one might expect. Empire City says it has one of the largest casino floors in the country and is the largest gaming floor in the MGM Resorts portfolio with many other jackpots waiting for lucky winners.

While the jackpot is the largest hit this year, it is not the largest currently available at Empire City, according to the casino. The Hudson Valley gaming destination says that it now features a jackpot exceeding $1 million, also on the IGT Wheel of Fortune Triple Stars game. The second highest jackpot currently available is over $575,000 on Bally's Celestial King and the third highest is Bally’s Monopoly Millionaire at $490,000. More than 1,750 jackpots over $10,000 have been hit this year, according to Empire City.

The most recent winner to join the Empire City millionaire club was Domingo Rodriguez, a Bronx resident who hit a jackpot of $1.062 million in July 2021. The highest jackpot record at Empire City is held by Theresa P. of Ossining with a $2,919,163 win, and she is also the only two-time member of the millionaire’s club having hit a jackpot of $1,469,368 just a few months later, shortly after her nearly $3 million win. Other members of the millionaire’s club include Linda P. of Connecticut who hit a $1,514,634 jackpot; Howard G. of Long Island, who won $1,473,503; and Linda H. of Thornwood, who took home a jackpot of $961,411.

In addition to the largest jackpot of the year being won in recent days, a Hartsdale resident just drove off in a 2022 Chevy Silverado valued at over $50,000. The MGM Rewards member won the car as part of Empire City’s "250,000 October Trunk or Treat" promotion.
