2016 Meals on Wheels - March for Meals
Meals on Wheels Celebrates Community Champions Week as Part of the 2016 March for Meals Campaign

Every day, Meals on Wheels continues to serve our County’s older adults through delivery of over 700 meals. This herculean task is accomplished only with the support of hundreds of volunteers to help meet this agency’s needs. Last month the agency participated in the 2016 March for Meals campaign to rally and mobilize even more volunteers and community members to raise awareness of senior hunger and encourage action on the part of our local community.
The agency held several events and participated in a Community Champions Week, March 14th-18th, as a part of its March for Meals Campaign. The results were phenomenal, and we want to thank everyone who participated. Our Community Champions included: Congresswoman Nita Lowey Assemblymen Ken Zebrowski & James Skoufis, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, County Executive Ed Day, County Clerk Paul Piperato, County Legislators Alden Wolfe & Aney Paul, Family Court Judge Rachel Tanguay-McGuane, Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart, Orangetown Justice Patrick Loftus, Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips, Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann, Clarkstown Councilmembers Frank Borelli & Valerie Moldow, Clarkstown Justice Scott Ugell, Clarkstown Superintendent of Highways Frank DiZenzo, Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan, Stony Point Clerk Joan Skinner, Nyack Trustees Marie Lorenzini & Louise Parker, and West Haverstraw Trustee Thomas Watson. All participated by either delivering meals, serving meals and/or visiting seniors at one of our five senior centers in the County. We even had some local celebrities participate including, child actor James Digiacomo (who will soon appear as Kevin James’ son in a new CBS sitcom) and the Rockland professional baseball team Rockland Boulders’ team mascot, “the Boulder Bird”!
In the agency’s over 40 years of delivering meals to the community’s homebound population, Meals on Wheels has proudly served over nine million meals. The agency continues to advance its mission by providing for the nutritional needs of older adults, reaching out to frail, isolated, and disadvantaged individuals and by providing a myriad of support services to those served and their caregivers. Through the Home Delivered Meal Program, Senior Activity Centers, Adult Day Care of Rockland at the Bobbi Lewis Center and other programs, the agency has impacted the lives of thousands of Rockland residents and their families. Our thanks to all in our community who have helped Meals on Wheels make this possible.
