Boost Learning with Fitness: a Workshop for Parents and Teachers Oct. 14
The event in West Nyack is hosted by Rockland BOCES.

How can we help students enhance their ability to learn and improve their grades while also getting healthier? It may be simpler and more fun than you think!
The Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition will host a free Community Learning Forum, “Boost Learning by Keeping Students Fit and Active,” on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 3:30-5 pm at Rockland BOCES, Building 3, Multipurpose Room, 65 Parrott Road in West Nyack. Pre-registration is requested.
Teachers, administrators and parents are invited to come and learn about the science behind the growing trend to use physical activity during the school day to boost learning. Nana Koch, Ed.D, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Movement Science at the Post Campus of Long Island University, will present current research and trends in using physical activity and physical fitness to stimulate brain function, which helps students improve memory, concentration and behavior.

Research shows a strong connection between physical activity and improved test scores in reading and math. Schools are encouraged to get kids out of their seats more often during the school day. “Physical activity is the key to sustained health and brain function. Increasing physical activity in school improves learning and well being,” said Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, Rockland County Commissioner of Health.
The Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition works with schools and community groups to improve the health and productivity of Rockland County students, their families, and educators.
