By the Bottle has Taken its Last Sip

After a two-year run, owner Milagros Cerdeira closed her Nanuet wine and spirits business, By the Bottle, July 31.

Nestled next to Raul's Nanuet Diner and across from Nanuet Restaurant on Main Street, By the Bottle boasted a collection of imported wine,  75 percent from Portugal.

Cerdeira was a makeup artist in the theater business before she traded in her mascara and lipliners for wine glasses. Armando, her husband, owns Quinta Steakhouse in Pearl River and introduced Cerdeira to Portuguese wines. The entire Portuguese wine collection in the restaurant was available at the her wine shop.

The Cerdeiras also have a wine bar in Pearl River a block away from the steakhouse. They made the decision to close By the Bottle leaving a note on the front door thanking their patrons.
