Clearing Fire Hydrants and Sidewalk Snow Removal

Help firefighters help keep you and your neighbors safe.

From Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack

In order to provide efficient fire protection for all the residents of Clarkstown, our Volunteer Fire Departments are working hard to clear the fire hydrants of snow. There are approximately 2,300 fire hydrants throughout the Town. Finding and accessing these hydrants in the event of an emergency is critical.

Any assistance from residents is needed in keeping the fire hydrants clear of snow.

If you are able to assist, please consider clearing the fire hydrants on your property or your neighbors property. The Fire Departments recommend at least a 4 foot circumference cleared around the fire hydrants. The safety and security of all Clarkstown residents is important and the time saved for Firefighters from having to locate and uncover a hydrant is vital.

Residents are also reminded that chapter 250 of the Town Code makes commercial and residential property owners responsible for keeping sidewalks in front of their premises clean and free from snow, ice, paper, sticks, and other debris. In particular, snow and ice must be removed within thirty six hours of accumulating on any sidewalk.
