Did You Ever Want To Sing The National Anthem At A Baseball Game? The Boulders Want You

Is your singing good enough to handle the at a baseball game? Now's your chance to try.

The , going into their second season of professional baseball play, will hold National Anthem and in-game host tryouts on Sunday, April 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Provident Bank Park, the year-old baseball stadium in Pomona. 

Those who try out to sing and make the cut will get the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Rockland Boulders game during the 2012 season.  In addition, the team will select one individual will be chosen to become the teams 2012 in-game host.  

“Giving fans an opportunity to be a part of the Rockland Boulders is important to us,” said Dana Fjermestad, Marketing and Promotions Manager of the Rockland Boulders.  “There is so much talent in our community that it is a pleasure to hold this type of event.  It’s the Boulders version of American Idol!”

Last year, residents from throughout Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties tried out to be anthem singers or to take on other entertainment roles at Provident Bank Park for Boulders games.

The National Anthem tryout will consist of three parts:

— The preliminary tryout will determine whether or not candidates will perform on the field for the final two rounds. 

— If the participant is asked to perform on the field, he or she will be asked to sing several stanzas of the National Anthem.

— And, the participant must sing part of a song of their choosing. The song must be a radio friendly tune.  Failure to adhere to this standard will lead to an immediate dismissal from the tryout.   

“We felt that giving participants the opportunity to sing a variety of songs would give us inspiration to find new ways to get our fans involved in the family-fun entertainment we provide at Provident Bank Park,” said Fjermestad.  

To try out for the 2012 in-game host, individuals will be given game-ready scenario to improvise on the field.  Scenarios may include commentating on game action or announcing prize winners. The Boulders expect the in-game host to be at all 2012 home games.  

“The Boulders in-game host is one of the most important jobs we have,” said Fjermestad.  “The host becomes the face of our in-game entertainment.”

Both National Anthem singers and in-game host are un-paid, voluntary positions.  Tryouts are open to the public so those wishing to tryout are encouraged to bring friends and family.
