Driver Jailed After Horrific Crash Injures Mother, Children
Residents are talking about the dangers of Route 59.
RAMAPO, NY — A horrific accident on Route 59 sent a mother and children to the hospital with critical injuries Monday. The driver, Albert Gomez, was charged with assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Gomez, 62, was sent to the Rockland County Jail. Bail was set at $150,000.
The accident took place about 3:15 p.m.

The children apparently hit Gomez's windshield so hard it shattered. The 3-month-old underwent surgery and is in critical condition, ABC News 7 said Tuesday morning.
No turning lanes, no sidewalks — the central Rockland artery is desperately in need of improvement, many say. A group has formed Improve59.org to advocate for that work.

"Minimal state funding has been allocated for sidewalks to improve the pedestrian safety on segments of Route 59, much more must be done this to manage traffic and improve the overall transit experience," they say on their website.
