Family Best Bets of the Week:

        - Street Fair

Where/When: South Main Street in New CitySunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: The days are running short before school starts, so get outside and have some fun!

Cost: Free

         Sanctioned Magic the Gathering

Where/When: ; Saturday at 7 p.m.

Why Go: There will be a standard tournament with prizes.

Cost: $5 entry fee

  • Why Go: Join the living history folks at Philipsburg Manor in learning about the area’s Native American culture. Enjoy folk traditions, storytelling, games, music, dance and crafts.
  • When/Where: Saturday, September 3rd - Monday, September 5th. 10am - 6pm. Sleepy Hollow, NY.
  • Pricing & Contact: $12 adults / $6 kids 5-17 / under 5 free. 914-631-8200.
  • Why Go: Families and kids ages 4-8 are introduced to wolves in this age-appropriate program at the Wolf Conservation Center.  Visit the wolves, snap a picture of their pups and learn about their role in nature.
  • When/Where: Sunday, September, 4th. 11am - 12:30pm.  South Salem, NY.

  • Why Go: Fall is upon us, and thoughts turn to crisp apples and cider. Learn about apple cultivation then help make and taste hand-cranked cider. While there, enjoy all that the Tenafly Nature Center has to offer.

        -13th Annual Little Tor Neighborhood  Association Block Party and Street Fair
Where/When: Twin Elms Lane between South Main Street and Little Tor Road, New City/Sunday, September 4 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Why Go: Meet your neighbors. Bring the family, lawn chairs, bicycles, a grill and food. Water slide, games, and family fun

Gerry Nevins Foundation Pig Roast (Tappan)
 

Where and When: German Masonic Park, 89 Western Highway, in Tappan; Sunday, September 4th from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Details: Marie Nevins lost her husband, Gerry, to the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. He was a New York City firefighter, assigned to Rescue 1 in Manhattan. She and some friends established The Gerry Nevins Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation that helps recently widowed parents in Rockland or Orange County with dependent children under 21 pay their rent or mortgage for three months. This event is the foundation’s major fundraiser featuring an old-fashioned neighborhood picnic with food and plenty of kid-friendly activities, including games, raffles, crafts and face-painting.
Pricing: In advance: $100 per family (2 adults, 2 children); $50 for adults and $25 for children; Payment on the day of event: $60 per adult and $35 per child. Order your advance tickets online at www.gerrynevins.org.

X-Battle: Paintball without the Pain(t) (Blauvelt)

Where and When: The Sports Place at 600 Bradley Parkway in Blauvelt; Tuesday, September 6th at 6:00 p.m.
Details: Described as “safe and fun for kids and adults of all ages,” it is paintball fun without the stinging pain of defeat.
