Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

Family Best Bets of the Week:

- Little Dragons Karate

Where/When:  Dragon's Den Mixed Martial Arts, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Get your 3 to 6 year olds out learning coordination and team work while having fun.

Why Go: Get out of the rain or sun with a fun movie!

- Suburban Foraging at Cropsey!

Where/When: Cropsey Community Farm New City, Friday, August 19th and Wednesday, August 24th
at 5 p.m.

Why Go: Join suburban foragers Paul Tappenden and Adrienne Gomez as they lead you through a wild walk of discovery, identifying and harvesting edible plants – many of which you probably never knew you could eat. At the end of the walk, everyone will be able to participate in the preparation and tasting of a delightful meal created from the day’s wild finds!

- Teen Gaming Competition

Where/When: New City Library, Friday, August 19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Why Go: Compete against other teens in challenges of Rock Band and board games.

- Natural Beauty

Where/When: New City Library/Saturday, August 20 at from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Why Go: Learn how to make facials, herbal baths and body lotions with kitchen and backyard ingredients.

- Kids Night Out (Bardonia)

Where/When: Bounce City, 21 Pralle Lane at Rt. 304, in Bardonia on Friday, August 19 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Why Go: Kids can come and enjoy Bounce City’s many inflatable rides, slides and obstacle courses. For children who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, there will be a pajama party with a showing of a G-rated movie. Pizza included.

- Friday Movie Day at Blauvelt Library (Blauvelt)

Where/When: Blauvelt Free Library, 541 Western Highway in Blauvelt on Friday, August 19 at 3 p.m.

Why Go?: This week's Friday feature film is "Rio" (Rated G) with a run time of 96 minutes.

- Orangetown Batting Cages (Orangeburg)

Where/When: The Orangetown Batting Cages are located at 82 Hunt Road in Orangeburg; Open 7 days a week: Monday through Friday from 3 to 8 p.m.; Weekends: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pricing: $2 a round (12 pitches); Seven rounds for $10; 16 rounds for $20.

- Washington Irving’s Sunnyside: From a Child’s Perspective

Why Go: Scavenger hunt, hands-on activities and period toys help bring the historic Sunnyside home to life for young visitors.
