Is Shoplifting On The Rise In Nanuet?
This week Patch spoke to employees of several area stores to see whether or not they have noticed an increase in shoplifting.

Downturns in the economy can mean an increase in petty theft and other crimes. Patch went to Rockland Plaza this past week to speak with the employees of several retail stores to find out if that is the case and whether or not shoplifting is indeed on the rise in Nanuet.

“’I’ve been here over a year and I wouldn’t say that there is a rise (in shoplifting.) It’s something that we expect and we do our best to minimize it.”

“The general manager, August Kuhling, was here on Sunday and stopped a theft of over $800. There was a problem with people stealing high end merchandise and returning it for store credit, but we put a stop to that.”

“No, I don’t see an increase. Luckily enough a lot of what we sell is secure. We also have a very alert staff and make sure all of our customers are greeted and attended to.”

“I haven’t seen a rise; it’s been steady. Maybe it’s because we are a specialty store. We have the same customers come in and out.”
