Nanuet’s Macy’s Be Book Smart Benefits Spring Valley’s Head Start Program

Through July 31, purchase a $10 coupon to be used towards a $50 purchase, $3 provides one book to a local child

Be Book Smart is Macy’s store-wide campaign with Reading is Fundamental. Be Book Smart invites the customer to give $3 at any register to provide a book to a local child and get $10 off a $50 purchase.

“When the customer purchases a $10 coupon, $3 of this automatically goes to Reading Is Fundamental and a discount of $7 can be taken off a $50 purchase," said Marian Mellin, Administrative Support Associate of Macy’s Nanuet. “The $7 can be taken off a current transaction, a separate transaction, or a future transaction of $50.

Macy’s goal is to provide $1 million books to RIF this summer–each $3 RIF coupon provides one book to RIF’s literacy programs in neighborhoods nationwide.

“Spring Valley Head Start is the beneficiary of all coupons sold at the Nanuet store” said Mellin. “All associates have a stack of coupons at the register and they ask every customer if they would like to purchase a coupon. We have sold over $750 of them, so it is going very well. There is a goal of 800 coupons, but when we reach 800, we keep going. There are also incentives for the sales associates to sell as many coupons as they can.”

"Be Book Smart comes at a time when RIF truly needs the support of every Macy's customer," said Carol H. Rasco, president and CEO of RIF. "Macy's continues to be a generous corporate partner to RIF, and we are thankful for their dedication and commitment to helping us provide books to the children who need them most. We know that together we can reach our goal of building a more literate America."

"We are committed to RIF and the millions of children and families the organization serves. Be Book Smart provides an easy opportunity to give back to local communities by supporting children's literacy, and we thank customers with a great offer for their back-to-school and fall fashion shopping!"
