New Nanuet Business: Massage Envy Spa Offers Affordability

A new franchise has been introduced to Rockland County with the opening of Massage Envy Spa on 8 Rockland Plaza. Owned by sisters Hope McNeilly and Kim Meyer, the spa offers massages including Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology, trigger point, prenatal, hot stone, and aromatherapy; it also offers facials and is trying to change how the public sees spas.

McNeilly and Meyer encourage customers to come to their spa frequently. "We view massages as health and wellness, not just pampering," said Meyer. "We want people to come in regularly."

Massage Envy Spa has a wellness program, which gives one massage a month and additional massages at a discounted price. This membership, with its affordable services, allows customers to get massaged on a regular basis.

"You can get a massage once every six months and not see improvement," said Meyer. "A regular massage does more for health and wellness." She adds that being massaged regularly alleviates pain and stress; it also makes people more functional from day to day.

In addition to being affordable, Massage Envy Spa tailors its services to its customers' needs. "We try to get a better understanding as to what [our customers] are looking for," said Meyer. "We match them with the therapist that makes the most sense for them."

Customers benefit from being matched with a therapist.

"Therapists get to see clients regularly," Meyer explained. "They work with [their clients] on whatever issue they have and see progress."

The Massage Envy franchise began in 2003. Since then, it has grown to more than 600 locations nationwide.  Customers of Nanuet's Massage Envy Spa can use their membership at any Massage Envy location—a feature that Meyer says is great for people who like to travel and get massaged regularly.

Massage Envy Spa sells Murad skincare products for customers to use after their facials. These products, which are sold in gift baskets, can be used as gifts for the holidays.

The spa also sells gift cards that are popular during the holiday season. Those who sign up for a gift card in the next two weeks will be entered into a raffle to win an iPad; the drawing on is on Dec. 28.
