The second floor entrances to the Sears and Macy's department stores are also closed off now. This is the first step of almost two years of demolition and reconstruction to change the Nanuet Mall into the Shops at Nanuet. The Shops at Nanuet is an open-air Main Street concept that calls for a demolition of the entire current structure with the exception of Macy's and Sears, who own their respective buildings.
At an October meeting between Nanuet Mall owner Simon Property and the Clarkstown Planning Board, Simon outlined a rough timeline and what their vision is for the new concept.
At that meeting, Simon said they would begin by barricading all entrances to the mall structure, leaving only outside access available for the two department stores. Then they plan to begin with interior asbestos abatement and demolition before moving on to exterior demolition.
They expect all demolition to finish by June to begin site and foundation work for the Shops at Nanuet.
