Spring Valley Man Had Phony Identity
After he was chased down by police, they found he had a drivers license and credit cards in another name.
SPRING VALLEY, NY — A Spring Valley man was convicted after a jury trial over identity theft. Nicos Dinkins was found in possession of a fraudulent New York State driver license featuring his photo but printed with the name “William Cooper,” plus three credit cards in the same name.
Because of multiple prior convictions, Dinkins faces up to seven years in state prison.
“Identity theft is an unfortunate reality in the digital age," Acting Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece said in an announcement about the verdict. "The Rockland County District Attorney's Office must remain vigilant in targeting offenders who jeopardize innocent victims.”

Dinkins, 31, was arrested following a brief foot chase in Spring Valley after police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle.
He was convicted on on four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, class “D” Felonies. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Peterson and Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Von Ronn.
