Toys R Us launches new Product Safety Program

Toys R Us started the Product Safety Vigilance Program yesterday to help parents stay up to date about product recalls and track their purchases. This program started in conjunction with Friday's launch of the "Great Trade-In" event.

Toys R Us began a new nationwide program called the Product Safety Vigilance Program. Some of the program's features are:

  1. provide consumers with proactive steps in ensuring their child's safety.
  2. "Eight Steps to Keep Kids Safe" is a checklist for parents to stay informed on product recalls. This checklist is available at their Safety website and in-store at the baby registry desk.
  3. Product Record List for parents to track their purchases and gifts. These tools are designed to make relevant product information readily available in the event of a recall so parents and caregivers can act quickly to remove unsafe products from use. This downloadable list can be found at the Safety website mentioned above as well as at baby registry desks in stores.
  4. Helpful reminders such as being watchful for product recalls in not only their own home but at day care centers or a home of a friend or family member.

"It's crucial that parents have the most current information available about the products in use in their homes, so they can react quickly and appropriately in the event of a recall," said Nancy A. Cowles, executive director of Kids In Danger.

This program was launched to pair with Toys R Us' third "Great Trade-In" Event. This event starts Friday and goes through September 19. Parents can bring in specific used and potentially unsafe items and get 25 percent off a new item.
