WEATHER ALERT: 'Significant Black Ice' Will Affect Clarkstown's Morning Commute

The snow has moved on, but the National Weather Service has extended a winter weather advisory for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties until 9 a.m. Tuesday due to ice on roadways and sidewalks.

“Please be prepared for flash freeze conditions,” said the meteorologists at Hudson Valley Weather.

The Hudson Valley was hit with several inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain Sunday and Monday.

Next, the temperature falls into the teens overnight Monday, freezing sleet, slush, snow-melt and standing water. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph will sink wind chill temperatures to as low as 10 below zero. Scattered power outages are also possible from falling tree limbs, the NWS says.

“Significant black ice will cause travel difficulties,” the NWS said. “Use caution while driving.”

Tuesday is expected to be sunny with a high in the low 20s. Wind chills, however, will make it feel like zero to 10 degrees, the NWS says.
