Welcome to the 'Cheers' of Delis
D&D Deli, Catering & Bakery is the neighborhood place for good food and friendship
Welcome to D & D Deli, Catering & Bakery.
“We are,” said Diane Samimi, “the ‘Cheers’ of delis! We’re very attentive to our customers. The food is great, but it’s not just about food.”
D & D has the old time feel of the store next door. Nowadays, when many food shops opening are very generic, D & D makes sure that they’re different.

“We feature the old value of a neighborhood store," said Diane, who owns the deli with her husband Dan, one of the first inductees into the Rockland County College Hall of Fame based on his soccer exploits, scoring 64 goals in just two seasons. "When you walk in, you feel safe, and you're known by name.”
And many in the local area certainly do “walk in,” and that includes customers from Spring Valley, Clarkstown, Suffern and more.

D & D has been in business for 16 years, and it's like home for the Samimi family. Their children—Daniel, age 20; Elizabeth, age 18; and seven-year-old Samantha —are also often on-site to help out, and Dan’s brother Peyman also aids in the running the deli.
There is an affection here for people, and it’s reciprocal between the Samimis, their staff and their customers. Spring Valley resident Mike Brescia both lives and works in Spring Valley, and he feels the Samimi's welcome when he enters every day, sometimes twice a day. He stopped by on lunch break from his job as a Miele Auto Parts deliveryman, and ordered a turkey sandwich with mustard and lettuce.
“It’s the service and quality of the food,” he said when asked why he visits sometimes twice a day. “They’re really nice, quick and give total attention. They’re cool people, and they have a great variety of food and coffee.”
And it's reciprocated. And how "cool" is this? When daughter Samantha was born in January 2004, Diane received gifts every day from customers–through April. And this past September, when Diane was in the hospital recovering from an operation, she missed the deli and clientele so much, she took orders from her hospital bed!
Glenn Rolnick has known Dianne Samimi for 30 years. A resident of New City, he is also the Director of Culinary Operations for the The Alicart Restaurant Group in New York City. He knows food, and most of all, hospitality. He visited with his son Chase, age 3, who loves the D & D fresh baked Italian bread.
“We come here a lot. My daughter Alexis is addicted to the bread," Rolnick said. "You just warm it up in the oven. I’ve been pushing for them to open a bakery.”
And that may be on the horizon. Plans are underway to possibly increase the bakery section, and perhaps do a smoothie or salad bar. Everything at D & D is made on the premises, and a full menu of catering options are available.
Another fine thing about D & D is its charitable endeavors. Diane on April 30 will take part in a Biathalon (2-mile run10-mile bike2-mile run) to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation. She has seen many family members and customers affected with breast cancer and, in her words, “any research is one step closer to a cure.”
