West Rock Has All Your Sports and Entertainment Needs

100,000 square feet of activity and fun

To take care of everything entertainment and sports-wise in Bardonia, Nanuet and Rockland County, one need not drive any further than Pralle Road off of Route 304.

That’s the home of the 100,000 square foot West Rock Indoor Sports and Entertainment Complex. What you need here can be found. Indoor tennis? Check. Basketball? Check. Soccer, baseball and other sports? Check. Rooms for parties? Yes. Strength training? Yep. Apparel shopping? Yes. Weddings?

Weddings?! Don’t rule it out. Owner of three years, Jim Miller, would love to start hosting weddings.

“We’re very versatile; it’s great,” said Miller.

Miller grew up in West Nyack, was a local all-county tennis player at Clarkstown South High School, and he had started a few garment district companies selling “hip clothing lines.” He’s also the founder of the Kennedy Funding Invitational tennis event (http://www.thekennedyfundinginvitational.com) that supports the breast care centers at both Nyack and Engelwood hospitals, which has a tremendous following.

And when the 47-year-old West Rock became available in 2007, he jumped at it.

“I love it,” he said. “I’m passionate about all that I do. That’s always been me; I do it at top level.”

And as good and popular as West Rock is, Miller is setting about making changes. You don’t improve standing still. When he purchased the facility in 2008, it had 12 tennis courts. He’s taking six away, making room for an indoor soccer and lacrosse field. He also wants to increase the amount of bar and bat mitzvahs and Sweet 16 parties held there.

“We’re very flexible,” he said with excitement. Then he pointed upward. “Look at those 40-foot ceilings. You have to think outside the catering hall.”

The tennis courts at West Rock, where you can take lessons and also compete in single and doubles, are Har-Tru courts, the best kind. If you’re in need of apparel to wear, you can purchase it here, and also have your racquet restrung. Miller has top level instructors on board. West Rock also offers open gym basketball also under the eyes of an instructor, “so kids can come and learn the game the proper way.”

West Rock hosts summer sports camps, fall youth sports leagues, and much, much more. Visit the website for more information as to what is offered.

“I’m very lucky,” Miller said, while showing a trophy that the West Rock 2010 14U9th grade girls basketball team won in a tournament. “I’ve surrounded myself with strength.”
