1 In 4 NYers Fully Vaccinated Against Coronavirus, Data Shows

NEW YORK CITY — Odds keep ticking up that New Yorkers walking down the streets, riding subways and eating in restaurants are vaccinated against the coronavirus.

One in four New York City dwellers — 1.5 million people — are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to new city data.

And nearly 40 percent of city dwellers have received at least one dose of vaccine — a higher percentage than the roughly 33 percent of people statewide who have, according to state health department data.

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday said the city is nearly 5 million total vaccine doses that went into arms.

"Of course, our overall goal is 5 million fully vaccinated New Yorkers by June," de Blasio said. "But in terms of individual doses, today a very good number: 4,738,246 doses since the beginning of the vaccination effort."

The city's vaccination effort has ramped up considerably since a rocky, slow start amid supply woes and at-first limited eligibility.

All New Yorkers 16 and up starting this week are eligible to receive the vaccine. People can find more information on how to sign up for appointments and get doses here.

There remain disparities in which New Yorkers have received the vaccine.

Manhattan has 47 percent of its residents at least partially vaccinated, while more-populated or generally less white boroughs like the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens stand at 33 percent, 34 percent and 39 percent, respectively.

City and state officials keep expanding efforts to get the vaccine to communities of color who have been hard hit by the pandemic.

"Every shot brings us one step closer to the light at the end of the tunnel, and that is why so important everybody gets vaccinated," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement. "Getting the vaccine shows you care."
