100th Annual New York City Veterans Day Parade Draws Thousands
Crowds celebrated veterans amid several President Donald Trump protestors and supporters as Trump attended the opening ceremony.
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK -
About 25,000 people gathered in Manhattan, New York City on Nov. 11 between 24th and 48th streets for the 100th annual New York City Veterans Day parade. President Donald Trump attended the opening ceremony before the parade began and delivered remarks at Madison Square Park honoring veterans and active armed forces members. All sitting United States presidents in the past have been invited to the parade. Trump was the first president to attend the parade since the tradition began in 1919 for returning troops after World War I. Trump supporters and protestors lined sections of the parade route holding signs of support for the president or signs demanding his impeachment.
Veterans, active duty personnel, high school and college marching bands and others participated in the 1.2-mile parade.
