TASTE OF THE SEAPORT 2016

Where: Front Street (between Fulton and Peck Slip), Seaport [map]
When: Saturday, 10/15, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What: We'll soon be forced to put a stake in al fresco entertainment for the remainder of the year, but for one more weekend at least, attending an outdoor festival is still within reason. This Saturday, it's the 7th annual Taste of the Seaport in Lower Manhattan. More than 40 neighborhood food and beverage purveyors will offer small servings of their dishes and drinks, each for the price of a single "taste ticket." But there will also be plenty of free kids' activities and live entertainment — you pay only for what you consume. More information and tickets here.
How much: FREE to attend. Taste tickets are $7 each
NEW YORK DOG FILM FESTIVAL

Where: Symphony Space, Upper West Side [map]
When: Saturday, 10/15; screenings at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
What: Did your ears just perk up? Is your tail suddenly a-waggle? Must be because the Dog Film Festival is on its way into town — and set to take over Symphony Space all day Saturday. Movies devoted to man's best friend range in length from very-short shorts to full-length features, and are presented within roughly two-hour-long programs focusing on four central themes: Dogs British Style; Dogs in the Outdoors; Love Makes the World Go Round; and The Champions. Films are selected for their uplifting message and positive tone — no animals are hurt or killed in these stories. When you return home, filled with all that doggy love, you'll want to take your own sack o' fur on an extra-long walk! Full program schedule and tickets here.
How much: Tickets are $15 for adults (or $10 for kids)
WHITE LUNG

Where: Villain LLC, Williamsburg, Brooklyn [map]
When: Saturday, 10/15, 8 p.m.
What: Now, before you freak out and say, "But wait! I thought White Lung was playing Market Hotel Saturday night!" take three deep breaths, real slow. Yes, the show has been moved because of the hotel's recent liquor-license issues. But your favorite melodic-punk outfit will still be rocking Williamsburg at the same hour (8 p.m.), just at a different place (Villain LLC). The Vancouver-based trio is currently touring in support of their fourth album — the anthemic, pop-tinged Paradise, which we highly recommend (here's a sample). More information and tickets here.
How much: Tickets are $15
CHVRCHES

Where: Radio City Music Hall (Saturday, 10/15) [map]; Terminal 5 (Sunday, 10/16) [map]
When: Saturday, 10/15, and Sunday, 10/16, both at 7 p.m.
What: If holding up some sweaty crowd-surfer with his perfectly-distressed jeans-butt in your face doesn't sound like a party, then bag White Lung (see previous entry) and head into Manhattan for the slicker, radio-ready sounds of CHVRCHES, playing Saturday at Radio City and Sunday at Terminal 5. The three Glaswegians are bringing their crisp synth-pop to town at the tail end of a yearlong tour supporting their latest record Every Open Eye; and after all that round-the-world hype, word on the street is deafening that these homies are totally sick live. For tickets to Saturday's sold-out show, try Stubhub. Sunday tickets here.
How much: After-market tickets to the Radio City show start at $6 (!?). Tickets are $39.50 for Terminal 5
NYC WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL

Where: Various locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn
When: Friday, 10/14, noon 'til late; Saturday, 10/15, and Sunday, 10/16, 10 a.m. 'til late
What: If you find yourself aimlessly strolling the charming thoroughfares of the City this weekend, don't be surprised if a handful of fancy folks stumble drunkenly out onto the street, betraying their finery with a fat belch and a loose belt. They're just satisfied participants in the city's foremost gala of gluttony: the Food Network's New York City Wine & Food Festival. And they could, in fact, be you! Tickets are still available for many individual events, from more than 100 on offer; they range in price from around $75 to over $700. There are tastings, demos, classes, intimate dinners, rooftop events — you name it — featuring more than 500 chefs, food celebrities and entertainers like Martha Stewart, Mario Batali, Guy Fieri and Charlie Palmer. It's a guilt-free indulgence, too, because all proceeds go to food-related charities. For a complete schedule of events and tickets, go here.
