On the 25th anniversary of September 11, The Elsewhere Ensemble presents INVOCATION – a prayer for peace, an intimate, deeply expressive musical meditation on peace, violence, faith, and our shared humanity.
Written by composer Colin Pip Dixon for soprano, baritone, and string trio, Invocation weaves together prayers, poems, and texts spanning more than two thousand years and drawing from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and secular traditions. Words by Rumi, Frederick Douglass, St. Francis of Assisi, Albert Einstein, Etty Hillesum, and others come together in a lyrical and haunting 80-minute work.
The New York Concert Review wrote of the ensemble’s recent NYC performance: “…the emotional impact was undeniable.”
Featuring Grammy Award–winning baritone Kenneth Overton, soprano Camille Ortiz, violinist Colin Pip Dixon, violist Arnaud Ghillebaert, and cellist Kathryn Brunhaver.
Invocation does not seek to explain or preach. Rather, it offers a space to pause, listen, and come together through music — on an anniversary that continues to resonate deeply in New York City and around the world.
