Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi – Lower Manhattan

On Friday, September 18, a herd of 40 life-size buffalo puppets will roam through Lower Manhattan as Return of the Buffalo: Tatanka Owe Akupi kicks off its two-day New York City public art spectacle. Beginning at Bowling Green Park and ending in Foley Square, the procession will invite audiences to walk alongside the buffalo while experiencing live performances and artistic activations throughout the route.
The day’s lineup includes the Native Pride Dancers and Lenape elders at Bowling Green, guitarist collective Dither at Broad Street Plaza, Davóne Tines & THE TRUTH and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams at Federal Hall, and Susan Sarandon, Rosario Dawson and Resistance Revival Chorus at Zuccotti Park. Additional performances will feature Fogo Azul, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Nathalie Joachim, Caridad de la Luz, Cannupa Hanska Luger, Pilobolus and Rhiannon Giddens.
