Chirlane McCray Passes On BK Borough President Race: Report
New York City's First Lady said she'll instead focus on services for city dwellers hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, the report states.

NEW YORK CITY — Running for elected office isn’t in New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray’s immediate future.
McCray announced Thursday on NY1 that she will not run for Brooklyn borough president. Her statement ended months of speculation about her potential bid.
“I thought about it long and hard and decided in this urgent moment there’s so much work to be done, right now, right here where I am, and my priority really is to see this through — my priority is serving the people of New York,” McCray told NY1. “The pandemic has devastated so many families and people are hurting. And I want to make sure New Yorkers have services they need and our city comes back stronger than ever.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio reported pushed McCray's candidacy. Her decision not to run leaves the family's political future open and uncertain after de Blasio's term ends in 2021.
McCray's decision prompted warm responses from other potential 2021 candidates for the borough president.
