Offices soon can expand to 75 percent capacity statewide, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced. But the city's gyms won't be able to expand.

NEW YORK CITY — People across the state soon can gather together in larger groups inside offices and at outdoor stadiums — but not in New York City's gyms and fitness clubs.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced expanded coronavirus capacity limits at certain venues.

Outdoor stadium capacity will grow from 20 to 33 percent, and offices will move from 50 to 75 percent, Cuomo said.

Gyms and fitness clubs can go from 33 to 50 percent capacity, he said.

"And that is outside of New York City," he said.

The capacity limits take effect May 15, Cuomo later tweeted.

It's not the first time New York City has been left behind on coronavirus reopening rules. For months, the city's restaurants were either closed for indoor dining or at lower occupancy limits compared to the less-restrictive rules outside the five boroughs.
