8 Injured By U-Haul Truck’s ‘Violent Rampage’ In Bay Ridge: Cops
"At this time, we have no indication that there is any terrorism involvement in this incident," said NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Eight people were hurt after a U-Haul truck driver went on a “violent rampage” in Bay Ridge Monday morning, said NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
The vehicular onslaught ended when cops arrested the truck’s driver near the Hugh L. Carey, commonly known as the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, Sewell said.
Police didn’t release the suspect’s name as of Monday afternoon, but said the truck plowed into several people across seven locations near Fifth Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway, Sewell said.

The incident was strikingly reminiscent to a 2017 rampage in which an Islamic extremist, Sayfullo Saipov, struck and killed eight people along the Hudson River bike path. Saipov recently was convicted of 28 counts related to that rampage, but Sewell said preliminary investigation didn’t show any signs the Bay Ridge incident didn’t appear to be a copycat crime.
“At this time, we have no indication that there is any terrorism involvement in this incident,” she said.

When asked whether the Bay Ridge spree was intentional, Sewell said, “We don’t know that at this time.”
Two people were critically injured as the U-Haul’s driver careened over the road, Sewell said.
Another two suffered serious injuries and four had minor injuries, Sewell said. One of the victims was an NYPD police officer.
Surveillance video shows the moment the truck drives off the road as a pedestrian manages to jump away.
Cops tried to stop the man after receiving calls about the truck, Sewell said. The incident draw swift reactions from prominent local and state officials.
"A man driving a U-Haul went on a rampage in Bay Ridge," tweeted City Council Member Justin Brannan. "Several people were hit and badly injured."
"I have been briefed on the developing situation in Brooklyn," New York Gov. Kathy Hochul wrote in a tweet. "My team is coordinating with New York State Police and the NYPD and are ready to provide any assistance needed as the investigation continues."
"There are no additional credible threats at this time," the NYC Mayor's Office wrote in a tweet.
