NEW YORK CITY — A former high-ranking NYPD officer admitted Friday to having sex with a subordinate, but denied the woman's claims that he demanded sexual favors in exchange for overtime, according to a report.

Former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey resigned last week amid the claims made by Lt. Quathisha Epps, who told the New York Post that Maddrey "routinely" preyed on her by asking for sex.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch accepted Maddrey's resignation on Dec. 20, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

"The NYPD takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously, and will thoroughly investigate this matter," the statement from the department said.

In an exclusive interview with NBC New York, Maddrey described the relationship between him and Epps as an "office fling" and denied giving her overtime or pressuring her in any way.

"We had got together a couple of times, there was really nothing to it," he told NBC New York. "There was no romance. We weren't girlfriend and boyfriend."

Maddrey continued, claiming the relationship was "absolutely consensual" but "inappropriate."

"That's part of the reason I did make the decision to step down because I knew I used bad judgment," he told NBC New York.

The allegations were not the first time Maddrey had been accused of wrongdoing. In the past, the New York Times reported that he faced disciplinary charges and litigation when a former officer sued Maddrey and accused him of repeated sexual advances.

In August, NYPD officials dismissed internal charges against Maddrey after he was accused of interfering in the arrest of a retired officer who had chased three boys while armed, the Times reported.
