FDNY Commissioner Announces Resignation Day After Election
Tucker did not disclose a reason for his resignation.

NEW YORK CITY — FDNY commissioner Robert Tucker has announced he will resign from his position in December.
Tucker announced his decision less than 24 hours after the New York City general election on Tuesday.
The FDNY commissioner's last day will be Dec. 19. An interim acting fire commissioner will take over after Tucker resigns.

Tucker was appointed commissioner in 2024 after taking over Laura Kavanagh who also resigned.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as the 35th New York City Fire Commissioner,” Tucker said in a statement.

Tucker did not disclose a reason for his resignation. Multiple media outlets, including the New York Post, have reported that the decision may be over Mamdani's criticism of Israel.
"Thank you to Mayor Adams for his trust and confidence in doing this job," he added.
Mayor elect Zohran Mamdani will be tasked with appointing a FDNY commissioner when he takes office on Jan. 1.
