JFK Airport Escalator Fire Injures 10, Dozens Of Flights Delayed
The fire broke out on an escalator in Concourse C around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, prompting the airport to evacuate nearly 1,000 passengers.

NEW YORK CITY — At least 10 people were hurt and dozens of flights were delayed after an escalator fire broke out in Concourse C at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday, according to Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials.
The FDNY and Port Authority police responded to the airport after the fire started around 7:15 a.m. in JFK's Terminal 8, a Port Authority spokesperson confirmed. Approximately 990 people were evacuated to another part of the airport, officials said.

Images of the scene shared on X showed smoke filling the terminal.
Ten people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Port Authority officials said. Eight were taken to the hospital for further evaluation, according to an FDNY spokesperson.

The terminal is occupied by American Airlines, reports said. As of 2:15 p.m., 220 flights in or out of JFK were delayed and 10 were canceled, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware. It's unclear if the delays were related to the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
