NEW YORK CITY — Domenico "Dom" DeMarco has crafted his last perfect pizza.

The legendary founder of Di Fara Pizza died this week, his daughter Margie De Marco Mieles said in a Thursday Facebook post.

"It is with a broken heart that I must share that he has left my mom, my brothers, my sister, myself and all those that loved him because it was his time," she wrote. "My dad 'Dom' was 85 years old and all our hearts will be broken."

Since 1965, DeMarco handcrafted every pie in Di Fara Pizza. The Midwood pizza joint became renowned as among the best, perhaps even the pinnacle, in New York City.

As Mark Iacono, founder of the renowned Lucali, put it in a tribute, DeMarco set a new standard for the city's pizza scene.

"You single-handedly turned the pizza world upside down," he wrote on Instagram. "You set the standard, and trails of success for so many of us."

DeMarco was an immigrant from Italy who maintained a connection to his home country through his famous pies.

"Many of the ingredients are imported from Italy and forms a taste that can't be replicated," Di Fara's website states. In his piping hot retro oven, Dom has each mouthwatering pie ready to be devoured in just minutes."

Tributes to DeMarco after his death flowed in as long as the lines for his famous pies and $5 slices.

"Dom DeMarco was a legend," tweeted Mayor Eric Adams. "He brought a little slice of Caserta from Italy to New York City. His legacy will live on anytime someone picks up a pie from @difara."

"When my time comes, I’ll fold arms across chest and breathe a contented last," tweeted David Simon, who created "The Wire." "Thrice in my otherwise misspent life, Domenico DeMarco stood over my pie to clip fresh basil with his big scissors. May his memory be a blessing to all at DiFara’s."
