Max Rose Concedes To Nicole Malliotakis In Staten Island Race

NEW YORK CITY — A Republican will join New York City's congressional delegation.

Incumbent Rep. Max Rose, a Democrat, on Thursday conceded to his GOP rival Nicole Malliotakis in the race for a congressional seat covering Staten Island and parts of southern Brooklyn.

The 11th District race remained nominally undecided while Rose refused to concede to Malliotakis — who held a commanding Election Day lead — until absentee votes were counted.

By Thursday, Rose had seen enough.

"As we continue to count every ballot and are on track to dramatically narrow the gap by tens of thousands of votes to a 4-5% margin, it is now clear that we will fall short of 50.1%," he tweeted.

Malliotakis, a state Assembly Member, had already declared victory based on the Election Night results. She flipped the seat back to GOP control and will join New York City's largely-liberal congressional delegation, which includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Indeed, Malliotakis appeared to take aim at Ocasio-Cortez's contingent of fellow progressive women in Congress known as the "Squad."

"An anti-socialist squad is forming...," Malliotakis tweeted.
