Meet New York City's New Area Code: 332

Phone customers in Manhattan may be assigned a 332 area code starting June 10.

MANHATTAN, NY — Watch out 212, 646 and 917: There's a new area code in town.

Starting June 10, the area code 332 will debut in Manhattan, according to telecommunications giant Verizon. Anybody getting a new phone number after that date could be assigned a 332 number. The new area code will only affect those on the island of Manhattan, so 718ers are safe from the change.

But there's no reason for Manhattanites to worry, as having a 332 number will be different in name only. Those with 332 numbers will continue to use their phones normally, and calling a 332 number will be no different than with other area code.

Besides, who dials in numbers manually anymore?

A new area code does not signal a change in your phone plan either, according to Verizon.

"The price of a call, your plan and coverage area, and other rates and services will not change because of the additional overlay," the telecommunications company announced. "All local calls will remain local."

One thing to keep in mind should you be given a 332 area code: update your business cards, websites, identification cards, advertisements and other places where your personal contact information may be included.
