Nordstrom and Operation Warm Provide New Coats to Entire School
Nonprofit Celebrates 20 Years, Sets Goal to Serve 3 Million Children by Winter

Brooklyn, New York – More than one in five children in Brooklyn live in families with incomes below the federal poverty line. Necessities like warm winter clothing can be hard to provide when food, housing, heat and healthcare take priority.
Nordstrom is teaming up with Operation Warm, a national nonprofit who manufacturers and gives away brand new winter coats to children in need. On Monday, Nov. 19, Nordstrom will provide brand new coats to every child at Brighter Choice Community School in Brooklyn through its partnership with Operation Warm. Operation Warm identifies children by qualification for the federal Free and Reduced Meal (FARM) Program. Brighter Choice Community School has 82% of its students living in need.
Additionally, Nordstrom will be providing funding to give 1,000 coats to children living in transitional housing across New York City. More than 114,000 children were identified as homeless in the 2017-2018 school year. This effort is a way for Nordstrom and Operation Warm to do their part in helping these children through the winter.

Since 1998, Operation Warm and its partners have given away over 2 million coats across North America. Nordstrom’s coat giving event is part of Operation Warm’s “3 Millionth Coat Tour,” a season-long effort highlighting Operation Warm and their Partners’ coat giving initiatives in over a dozen cities across the country.
“It’s important to us at Nordstrom that we give back to the communities in which we serve,” says Chris Wanlass, Nordstrom VP/GM, NYC. “This fall, we’re proud to partner with Operation Warm to outfit 1,500 New York City children in need with brand new winter coats. Hopefully their holiday season will be a little warmer.”

“We have both seen time and again that giving brand new coats to children not only provides warmth, but also boosts their self-esteem, school attendance and the opportunity to play outside. Nordstrom’s passion and dedication to our shared mission will help drive us toward reaching our 3 millionth child,” explains Dick Sanford, Operation Warm founder and CEO.
Nordstrom volunteers will visit Brighter Choice Community School to personally fit each child with a brand new coat in a bright, kid-friendly color and to help them write their name on a label that reads, “Made Just for You.”
Media is welcome to attend.
