NY Still Leads Nation In Coronavirus Cases, Data Shows
Despite recent declines in New York City and surges nationwide, the state last week had more COVID-19 cases than anywhere else.

NEW YORK CITY — The Empire State still led the nation in coronavirus cases last week, despite falling numbers in New York City and troubling surges elsewhere.
New York had 53,088 COVID-19 cases last week, according to Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center.
The second-highest state, Michigan — which has seen a sharp uptick in cases in recent weeks — had 46,879 cases that week, data shows.

Cases in New York City tallied 23,795 last week, a decrease from its monthly average, city data shows. But its overall positivity rate still hovers steady at above 6 percent.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, when recently asked by NY1's Errol Louis about the potential for a post-Easter surge, said making predictions with COVID-19 is difficult.

"We have seen all sorts of ups and downs, but I'll tell you something we know, we know to date that the vaccines are effective against the variants, and we know that the number of people being vaccinated is now skyrocketing in this city, and the supply is finally coming," he said. "I really believe that gives us the upper hand, but that said, yeah, the holiday impact can't be taken lightly."
New York is actually the only state with a significant decline in cases over the past 14 days, according to Johns Hopkins data.
But New York's overall numbers remain high — it is among five states that account for nearly half the nation's COVID-19 cases, the New York Post first reported.
